If you live in London, it is easy enough to find well-made African clothes for adults, just head to any market or high street in a good multicultural part of London. However for some reason, good quality, fashionable children’s clothes seem harder to come by. Of course, you can always buy your Ankara material, find a local African tailor and have clothes made, but what about off-the-rack designs?
A good search of the internet revealed this might be an area fashion designers, especially in London, have overlooked. We found Aisu London a label based in London which is reasonably-priced and modern too.
Aisu London is a Ugandan brand started by two passionate sister fashion designers from their home studio. Daphne Grace and Lois Anne started the label with the aim of initially designing garments for their daughter and niece.
According to their website, interest in their designs grew and orders flowed. It was not long before the trio started featuring at local African-inspired markets and in 2013 they launched their first boutique and exclusive kids tailoring service in London. They even showcased their designs at the Luanda Angola fashion show in December 2013. As they say on their blog, ‘Why should adults have all the fun with African prints?’
