Planetfem attended the LFW F.U.S.E show in the grand ballroom of the prestigious Montcalm Hotel, on Sunday 20th September. This was a night of fabulous celebration of SS16 collections from a selection of British fashion’s hottest young designers.
F.U.S.E is short for fashion, universal, style and entertainment and that is exactly what we got – a high-fashion couture catwalk showcase with top models. The 500 exclusive guests also included prominent fashion industry professionals alongside celebrity guests from TV and sports and the world’s fashion press. And then there was the fashion first – transgender supermodel, Johanna Londinium was chosen to take the lead for the first designer showcase.
Opening with LNE London, Johanna Londinium owned the catwalk wearing her striking beauty, while dressed in phenomenal bodypaint by the talented artist, Bobby Bicker. (In fact, it was so authentic that one of our table guests actually commented on the ‘delicate yet technical’ design. He was suitably embarrassed, of course, when informed it was body paint and not haute-couture). Johanna was showcasing the SS16 collection from the high-end accessories brand. Each item is hand-crafted by highly-skilled artisans in Macedonia who have been trained to use ecological and reused materials to create such detailed and well-cut finishes.
Another brand to note was Antithesis; a collaborative project launched in September 2012 by MA graduates Renée Lacroix and Zahra Ash-Harper of London College of Fashion. The Antithesis collection predicted oriental minimalism meets London for SS16. Delicate, bold and very chic, very interpretive designs.
Other impressive designers included Daivorm – by Daisy Vorm, one of two presenters of the show (Adam from Tresor Paris masterfully co-presented). Daisy is also wife of Tottenham Hotspurs No2 goalkeeper, Michael Vorm who was in attendance with his Spurs colleagues much to the excitement of your Spurs fan writer!
Michaela Frankova presented a collection which felt sensationally glamorous, a return to the days of Dynasty fabulousness. Fay Shafai’s London look was simplistic and sexy – femininity brought right up-to-date in spring pastels, short skirts and sleek lines. While Nicole Veronique brought Saturday night sex appeal back to fashion with lots of dark colours, sheer materials, high cuts and short skirts. Her models were a fantastic combination of shapes, creeds and had a real London edge and appeal. We loved the afros. The ‘fros killed it.
Liquorish, like Antithesis, predict SS16 will go the oriental way, but this time a combination of animal prints and geometric shapes were thrown into the mix creating smooth and vibrant silhouettes synched in at the waist with thick black belts.
The evening was filmed exclusively by FashionTV and broadcast live to a global audience of over 800 million viewers worldwide. Sponsored by Bardou, hair stylists to the stars, it was also expertly organised by the combined expertise of Starr Parties, CDeventsgroup, Alifestyle, and JPR Media Group.
