Black History Month: Holy & Horny Final UK Tour

Holy & Horny is the incredible one-woman show which has changed many lives and paved the way for positive change within black and Asian communities of the UK. Sometimes honesty really is the best and most powerful policy and playwright and performer, Tonya Joy Bolton knows this better than most.

The Voice newspaper called it ‘A ground-breaking play not only breaking box office records but helping to change lives’. The show sold out its National tour last year and is now back for a final ever UK tour before it spreads its wings internationally.

Described as hilarious, powerful and deeply moving. Actress and author Tonya Joy Bolton explores one woman’s struggle to remain holy despite being ‘as horny as hell!’ Tonya introduces the audience to twenty female characters including Sheila, the frustrated Christian and her alter ego Eve, a sexually uninhibited poet. Using a variety of art forms such as comedy, mime, physical theatre, song, poetry and drama, Sheila embarks upon a series of disastrous dates which lead to unexpected life-changing consequences.

Tonya explores race, gender, culture and sexuality in the play. More importantly, she discusses domestic and sexual abuse, a subject matter which has been taboo for far too long, especially in black and Asian communities.

Tonya told the Black History Month website that by speaking the truth about her own experiences she has changed the lives of others who have watched her powerful production. She says: “By speaking the truth we become leaders of our own lives. We drive change and we realise our dreams.

“By me speaking the truth, it has encouraged others to do the same – and that’s the greatest gift I could give to myself and my community.
