It claims to use fashion as ‘a tool for sustainable trade’ because it encourages customers to but products from all over the African continent including Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and Ghana.

Its co-founders Kiran Yoliswa and Alae Ismail personally travel to each country, meet the designers and handpick the pieces offered from their own travels around the continent, thus giving the ‘truly unique and beautifully made items.’

In 2012, SBA was given a social enterprise award from UnLTD and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) for its services to the core belief of ‘Made in Africa’ and supporting young designers to become successful in their chosen creative areas be it music, art, fashion or travel. It was also selected to recieve support from Richard Branson, chosen as a Virgin Media Pioneers trade mission in the same year.

“Like a stylist on the theatrical stages of a fashion shoot, runway or life, to be ‘Styled By Africa’ is to be in some way influenced or shaped by Africa’s heritage. And showing it with unapologetic flair!”
